Local Firefighters Spring into Action at Davidson College

DAVIDSON, N.C. – On Thursday, April 14, 2011 at 3:47 p.m., the Davidson Fire Department, with mutual aid from the Cornelius Fire Department, were dispatched to the Sentelle Dormitory at Davidson College for a report of smoke on the fourth floor. Consider these facts. There are approximately 600,000 elevators in the United States, or about 12,000 in each state. There are 120 billion rides on elevators and escalators each year. Out of those 120 billion rides, about 10,000 people end up in an emergency room due to elevator- or escalator-related accidents. These accidents are caused by tripping, by clothing getting caught, by being hit by closing elevator doors or by falling down an elevator shaft when trying to exit a stalled elevator car. Local NC Group Announces Support for First Responders

RALEIGH, NC (March 16, 2001) - Local public safety officials will soon have help paying for the in-service safety training that is critical to the life-or-death services they provide. The 200 Club of Wake County has announced a donation of $10,000 to the Wake Tech Foundation to support training for law enforcement, fire safety, and emergency services personnel who live or work in Wake County. The 200 Club, a group of citizens dedicated to supporting the families of fallen public safety officers, announced the donation at its 10th anniversary luncheon at Wake Tech's Public Safety Education campus.
